Healthcare Access

Healthcare Access is Economic Security

Health care coverage is more than a medical issue — it is a workforce issue, an economic issue, and a family stability issue.

When women have access to reliable, affordable health care, they are better able to work, care for their families, pursue opportunities, and contribute to Texas’s economy. Health insurance helps prevent disruptions that can force women out of the workforce, reduce productivity, or create long-term financial hardship.

The Reality Facing Texas Women

Despite recent progress in women’s health care policy, Texas continues to face significant challenges in ensuring women and families can access the care they need.

Today:

  • 17% of Texas women are uninsured
  • Nearly 1 in 4 full-time, year-round female workers lack employer-based health insurance
  • 23% of Texas women ages 19–64 are uninsured, far above the national average
  • Hispanic women face the greatest disparities, with 26% lacking health insurance

For many women, a lack of coverage means delaying preventative care, skipping medications, avoiding doctor visits, or facing medical debt that threatens their financial stability.

Without access to health care, women are more likely to experience interruptions in employment, reduced earning potential, and increased economic insecurity for themselves and their families.
