The naysayers may pooh-pooh virtual events during these times, but the Texas Women’s Foundation has the moolah to prove otherwise. Thanks to their virtual 35th Annual Luncheon presented by Toyota on Tuesday September 29, they were able to net … not just raise, but net … $800,000 for TWF’s Resilience Fund.

But then how could you lose with Toyota VP/Chief Procurement Officer Bonnie Clinton and The Dallas Mavericks President/CEO Cynt Marshall co-chairing the event that had award-winning actress/ director/producer/ best-selling author author/activist America Ferrera in a conversation with Target’s EVP/Chief External Engagement Officer Laysha Ward for an audience of more than more than 2,000 “influential business and philanthropic leaders”?

Established this past April,  the Resilience Fund “supports low income and marginalized women and families — especially women of color — who have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis.”

According to TWF President/CEO Ros Dawson Thompson, “Texas Women’s Foundation has long focused on supporting women at the margin. They are the reason we are focused on women’s economic security as a critical mandate for Texas’ future. Now, in this time of pandemic, these women’s vulnerability are in the headlines every day as the most impacted populations in our communities and state. We are dedicated to delivering meaningful support and services to the women and families most affected by the current environment. The funds raised at the luncheon will help us meet their needs now and in the months to come.”

As great as the $800,000 was, the need is still out there for additional funding as the pandemic continues its devastation in North Texas especially impacting the women and families benefiting from the Resilience Fund.
