Dallas, TX, August 22, 2024 –  The League of Women Voters of Dallas is proud to announce a special event on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in celebration of Women’s Equality Day, marking the 104th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. This year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” reflects our commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women in our community. The event begins at 12 p.m. at Dallas City Hall’s lobby (1500 Marilla, Dallas, TX 75201).

League of Women’s Voters of Dallas President Sandy Thornton said, “We are honored to welcome Karen Hughes White, president and CEO of Texas Women’s Foundation, as our keynote speaker for this momentous occasion. Karen’s dedication to championing women’s rights and fostering positive change embodies the spirit of Women’s Equality Day. Her insights and leadership serve as a beacon for all those striving for a more inclusive and equitable society.”

Thornton added, “As we gather at Dallas City Hall on August 28th, we not only celebrate the progress we have made in the journey towards gender equality, but also acknowledge the work that lies ahead. The event will feature engaging discussions, inspiring speakers, and a shared commitment to amplifying the voices of women and advocating for equal rights.”

White remarked, “I’m honored to stand with the League of Women Voters and the Dallas community to celebrate Women’s Equality Day. The theme, ‘Invest in Women’ aligns with Texas Women’s Foundation’s mission of investing in women and girls to drive social and economic change. With support from our donors and community partners, we do that research-based grantmaking and programs and thoughtful advocacy.”

Though the actual date of Women’s Equality Day is August 26, the organization is celebrating on August 28 to be able to include additional elected officials and featured speakers.

The League of Women Voters of Dallas recognizes the significance of this moment and the importance of continuing to push for meaningful change. While the organization celebrates the accomplishments of the past, it also acknowledges that there is still much to be done to ensure that women have equal rights, opportunities, and representation in all aspects of society.
