Texas Women’s Foundation, which is based in Lake Highlands, recently awarded $487,125 in grants to eight clinics across Texas.
Texas ranks last in the country for women’s health care coverage. The organization is aiming to bridge the gap in women’s health care in rural and underserved areas as part of its Reproductive Freedom Initiative.
The Foundation carefully vetted and awarded grants to the following clinics:
- Access Esperanza Clinics Inc. (McAllen)
- Cactus Health Services Inc. (Fort Stockton)
- Haven Health Clinics (Amarillo)
- Project Vida Health Center (El Paso)
- South Plains Rural Health Services Inc. (Levelland)
- South Texas Family Planning & Health Corporation (Corpus Christi)
- South Texas Rural Health Services, Inc. (Cotulla)
- Vida y Salud Health System, Inc. (Crystal City)
“The funding TXWF provided is needed right now more than ever before,” South Texas Family Planning & Health Corporation Executive Director Martha Zuniga said in the press release. “STFPHC will be able to keep our clients healthier by providing highly effective birth control along with key reproductive health services that are critical during a woman’s childbearing years. These health services will support a healthier mother, a healthier pregnancy when she is ready, a healthier childbirth and a healthier infant.”
The clinics will provide pregnancy related services, training for staff to optimize health care access, service-enhancing technology to providers, staffing costs to expand service or meet increased need and full access to birth control and reversible contraceptives.
