The Texas Women’s Foundation, based in the Lake Highlands area, held its 39th annual luncheon earlier this month with Emmy Award-winning journalist Ann Curry.

The luncheon took place on Nov. 1 at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Dallas and raised $750,000. TWF’s 2024 Community Grants recipients were honored at a brief reception prior to the luncheon, with awards totaling over $800,000.
Miss Texas 2024, Annette Addo-Yobbo opened the luncheon with a spoken word performance named “Texas Woman.” Yobbo’s performance was followed by remarks from foundation leadership detailing the importance of TWF’s work.
Curry was interviewed by KERA host Krys Boyd and detailed the challenges of advancing in a male-dominated journalism industry.
“You are now a part of the struggle and we’ve come a long way, but we haven’t crossed the finish line. Women fought to give you a voice. Use it.” Curry said. “My grandmother wanted to vote in an election, but my dad and grandfather wouldn’t drive her to vote because she wasn’t going to vote for the candidate they both wanted her to vote for. Fine. She walked to the election site. Her candidate won.”
